Intensive portfolio development in Romania
A retail park in Timisoara opened in May of this year, and other facilities – in Rosioria de Vede and Focsani – are already operational as of 2021.
By the end of 2022, Scallier’s portfolio in Romania will include about 40,000 sqm of leasable retail space, delivered in modern retail parks.
Plans for 2023
Scallier plans to open more facilities in 2023, expanding in mid-sized cities and high-growth locations.
All projects are built to green standards – BREEAM certified.
Thoughtful rental concept
“The retail parks we are developing in Romania provide a diverse, unique offer – stores of recognized international brands, large Romanian companies and local entrepreneurs.
This combination not only attracts customers, but also responds to their real needs.”
– Wojciech Jurga, Managing Partner of Scallier
The facilities often operate in close proximity to large grocery stores, creating a consistent shopping experience:
“A joint offer with supermarkets is a strong competitive advantage, especially in smaller and medium-sized cities. Such locations remain preferred shopping points for local communities for years,” adds Wojciech Jurga.
Romania – a market with potential
“Romania is one of the fastest growing markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
In the first quarter of 2023, it recorded one of the highest GDP growth rates in the EU – 5.2% quarter-on-quarter.”
– Adrian Aleman, Development Director for the Romanian market
This growth is driven by:
-
growing consumption,
-
IT sector development,
-
The growing interest of international brands in the Romanian market.
Retail parks meet the needs of modern consumers
“The rapid growth of the retail park sector has been influenced by the pandemic and changes in shopping habits.
E-commerce and stationary sales have begun to complement each other – many retail parks today serve as pick-up points for online orders.”
– Adrian Aleman
An example is the Flanco brand, present in Scallier parks, which offers electronic equipment and supports both in-store and online sales.
“Romania still lacks modern retail space. The projects developed by Scallier meet the locational needs of international retail chains while developing the local market.”
